The UAE has decided to shut down its 2G network in December 2022. At the same time, the UAE Telecom and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) announced that from June 2022, equipment that only supports 2G technology will not be sold in the UAE market.

The Telecom and Digital Government Regulatory Agency stated that the deactivation of 2G networks is to integrate resources and vigorously develop 5G networks.

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority also stated that companies affected by the decision will receive support from the UAE government.

According to the Global Communications Index, the UAE is the first country in the Arab region to launch and use 5G, and the fourth country in the world to launch and use 5G.
