As reported by Mobileworldlive on September 20, Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), in collaboration with Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), has launched the Future Communication Connectivity Lab, which they claim is the first 6G lab in Southeast Asia.
IMDA said the lab will combine 6G research and development with SUTD's AI super centre, aiming to enhance Singapore's future communication and connectivity capabilities and recruit talent.
Lew Chuen Hong, CEO of IMDA, said: "Today's innovation would not be possible without sustained investment and a focus on what's next, and this is the beginning of our efforts to fulfill the promise of future communications technology and become a global node of excellence. ."
The lab is part of Singapore's S$70 million (US$49.7 million) Future Communications Research and Development Program, hosted by SUTD and supported by the National Research Foundation of Singapore. IMDA said the lab will follow 3GPP and open RAN standards to provide "a simple assessment of research results".
