Nokia and Finland's Telia announced the launch of "the country's first" network slicing service for 5G FWA (Fixed Wireless Access), according to a report on the telecompaper website on September 9. Nokia will upgrade Telia's entire 5G radio access network infrastructure to enable 5G slicing. Telia is also using Nokia's equipment to make the most of its 5G spectrum assets and increase coverage in key areas.
The two sides said that the relevant deployment work is in progress. Telia will introduce 5G SA (Standalone) in its 5G FWA home broadband service. Nokia says its 5G SA core equipment provides Telia with speed, intelligence, and security. The introduction of network slicing will enable Telia to balance traffic between FWA and mobile users and provide new services such as application category-based slicing. With the ability to specify shards at different levels of speed, latency, and data quality, Telia can offer its customers a choice of different levels of broadband packages based on user needs.
