Slovenia's national telecom operator, Telekom Slovenije, has successfully trialled the Iskratel Lumia C16, making the critical upgrade of fibre networks to next-generation PON broadband easier, realwire reported on June 28.
Iskratel also announced that its compact combined PON (XGS-PON and GPON) Optical Line Terminal (OLT) has been successfully tested by multiple operators. Suitable for urban and rural population densities, the Iskratel Lumia C16 is well suited to meet a wide range of end-user needs, from typical residential quad playback (broadband internet access, TV, telephone and wireless service provisioning) to the most demanding residential uses; from SOHO to mobile backhaul.
"As Telekom Slovenije, the premier service provider in Slovenia, we are leading the way in introducing 10Gbps fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) communications. In addition to increasing data rates and functionality, we also want to benefit from the flexibility offered by the Combo PON OLT", Dr. Mitja Štular, Member of the Management Board of Slovenian Telecom responsible for technology, said, "We see Combo PON technology as a catalyst for converging and unifying FTTH access networks. In addition to serving residential and commercial users, the unified network will also connect mobile communication base stations - Not just 5G, but the future of mobile communications.”
